The approach, even if you need to take a gravel road for the final two km, is fast and easy coming from either direction – the Apennines or Florence and Siena, or alternatively from the coast along the Thyrrenian sea.
The river Cecina, which snakes its way along the small valey below us, describes the limit of the province of Pisa, and on the other side lies toward Siena, the closest major historic city (about 40 km away or 40 min by car). Florence is about 70 km to the North, or 1hr by car thanks to the Siena-Florence autoroute.
At an altitude of 500m, and well away from other inhabited towns, we still have the the convenience of shopping, restaurants, and services about 15-20 minutes by car. But Cerbaiola offers you a relaxing and beautiful stay in the heart of the Tuscan landscape.
Our position dominates a landscape of woods, open fields, valleys and rivers, with the low and soft contours typical of this region. The village is a natural balcony over an authenic Tuscan landscape. Volterra, unchanged for centuries, appears on the horizon and reminds us of ancient and famous cultures emanating from the Etruscans, to the Romans and then through the Renaissance until today. The fortress of Sillano, over the other valley, is a XIIth century castle, reminding us of ancient quarells between the kingdoms of the Renaissance and during the centuries before.
Traveling from Cerbaiola in this Tuscan landscape brings you to Florence, Siena, and other famous cities such as Volterra and San Gimignano, all within an hour.
So from here, you can easily reach a number of famous historic sites and cities.
The sea, with its beaches of Punta Ala, Castiglioncello, Cecina and Bibbona, is also acessible in less than an hour by car.
